Dick Farrelly - A Quiet Man / RTÉ Lyric FM
Over Christmas one year, as we listen to a vinyl record of the band of An Garda Siochána, my father-in-law (who was the percussionist) casually mentions he knew the composer of one of the songs.
And that he had lived not too far away...my curiosity was piqued.
In 1949, a Garda writes a song on a bus journey. Two years later, Bing Crosby makes it a world-wide hit, while John Ford uses its melody as the main musical theme his iconic film, The Quiet Man.
This Lyric feature documentary explores the influence The Isle of Innisfree had on Ford's film The Quiet Man and charts the musical and personal life of its quiet composer, Dick Farrelly.

SEA FOR YOUR SELF
What began as a technical challenge to explore the possibility of recording dialogue audio with a GoPro camera in the ever-changing aquatic environment, resulted in this short sea film. Or as I like to call it - a swillum.
Swimmer Dee, shares her insights as to why 'having a paddle' can help us cope with the daily challenges which life throws at us.
A place where your woes can't get at you. A therapy.
She muses on the challenges cold water presents, while savouring the isolation it gifts - helping to 'keep her afloat'.
