DICK FARRELLY - A QUIET MAN

Over Christmas one year, as we listen to a vinyl record of the band of An Garda Siochána, my father-in-law (who was the drummer) casually mentions he knew the composer of one of the songs on the album.

And that he had lived not too far away...my curiosity was piqued.

It's 1949. A Garda writes a song on a bus journey. Two years later, Bing Crosby makes it a world-wide hit, while John Ford uses its melody as the main musical theme for his iconic film, The Quiet Man.

This feature documentary explores the influence The Isle of Innisfree had on Ford's film The Quiet Man and charts the musical and personal life of its quiet composer, Dick Farrelly.
